85% of Parents Agree: Schools Should Teach AI Safety. Start at Home Tonight

Your kid is learning about AI every day, whether or not anyone is teaching them. They learn it from a chatbot that answers homework questions, from a video feed that never ends, and from friends who figured it out first.

That is why a new national survey is worth your attention. Parents do not agree on much about technology. On this, they mostly do.

Parents agree on something rare

The National Parents Union surveyed 1,528 parents of public school students in September 2026. A full 85% said public schools should teach students about AI safety.

It did not stop there. 79% said every teacher should be trained in AI literacy. 86% said tech companies should be banned from harvesting children's data.

Parents are not asking for a ban. They are asking for guardrails and for adults who know what they are doing.

Tonight, ask one question

National support is great, but it does not tell you what is happening in your kid's classroom. Tonight, ask your kid this one question: "Has anyone at school ever taught you how AI works?"

Then listen. Really listen. If the answer is yes, ask what they learned and what surprised them. If the answer is no, you now know something useful. Your kid is figuring out the most powerful tool of their childhood mostly on their own.

Either answer gives you a place to start, and neither one needs a lecture. A short, calm conversation tonight does more than a big talk ever will.

Start at home

While schools catch up, your house can set its own first lesson. Sit down together and write three simple rules about AI in your family, short enough to fit on the fridge.

Our free Family AI Agreement is a one-page place to start. It turns "be careful with AI" into something your kid helped write, which makes it something they are far more likely to remember.

Your kid does not need you to be an AI expert. They need you to be the adult who asked the question.
